I am the author of these poems, presented in this new book FAKE CITIES. Perhaps you'll enjoy these very personal poems, which I consider a keepsake for friends and family. The book is from Ex Ophidia Press, whose publisher, Richard-Gabriel Rummonds (also operating as Plain Wrapper Press), has published a select list of authors in the past, including Cheever, Borges, Anthony Burgess, and Dana Gioia. (Mr. Rummonds also designed my book and its cover.)From the introduction: "I certainly don’t have the market cornered on grief. I’ve experienced no more or less than anyone. I simply have an urge to render the passings, and how I miss my loved ones, through poetry’s power to slow down time. Maybe the poems can slow time down so much that you can walk around the events and people – imaginatively held in mid-air or frozen briefly out of time – and gaze to your heart’s content, as I have here in these poems. Perhaps you’ll see what I see; maybe you’ll see something I can’t or won’t." Here is a poem from the book:
Could Be Love
My wife came home
just after I was diagnosed
nevertheless bounding
out of the car,
all bright smiles
with a bouquet of flowers
that now – still abloom
in their vase a week later –
hasn’t lost a single
delicate petal nor
grain of pollen. Who can
say why? Could be
love, though. Could be.
